The rule that shapes every trip
Camping is first-come, first-served with no reservations, and there is no additional cost for camping beyond the entry fee. On holiday weekends the popular campgrounds fill early, so arrive with a backup in mind and be ready to use dispersed camping.

Oasis Campground: the all-rounder
The most developed campground at Little Sahara: 115 sites roughly four miles southwest of the Visitor Center, with paved RV pads, a dump station, drinking water, and easy dune access. This is the default pick for families and anyone bringing a large rig.
White Sands Campground: the pretty one
100 sites set among juniper trees near the northern dunes, and the most scenic of the four. It has drinking water, flush toilets in warmer months (vault in winter), and a fenced, motor-free play area for children.
Jericho Campground and Picnic Area: groups and overflow
40 picnic sites where camping is allowed, about four miles southwest of the Visitor Center. Jericho now serves as an overflow camping area and suits large groups: shady ramadas, an amphitheater, paved parking, flush toilets, drinking water, and a fenced play area.
Sand Mountain Campground: closest to the action
Primitive camping about four miles southwest of the Visitor Center and then roughly four more toward Sand Mountain. Three paved parking loops, drinking water, and restrooms. This is the holiday-weekend favorite for riders who want Sand Mountain out the door.
Dispersed camping
Allowed outside the developed campgrounds and away from established roadways. Choose an already-disturbed, durable surface; bring everything you need, including water; and pack out every item of trash.
What the desert asks you to pack
Little Sahara sits near 5,900 feet in a cold semi-arid desert. Day-to-night temperature swings are large in every season.
- More water than you think, for people and for radiators
- Sun protection, and shade you bring yourself
- A warm layer even in summer; nights drop hard
- Wind-resistant shelter and extra stakes for sand
- Firewood, because burning pallets is illegal and leaves nails in the sand
- Trash bags: if the bins are full, take your garbage home
