Utah Jack rests his paws on a weathered fence, with sunset lighting his long ears and forehead goggles.

The story behind the goggles

He came for the next ridge.
He stayed for the people.

In Jack's world, every good day begins with a question: “Wonder what's over there?” A new sweep of sand. A different color on the horizon. A place that makes you stop halfway through a sentence and just look.

He's Utah Dunes Guide's black-tailed jackrabbit character, with a pair of goggles, a dry sense of humor and an impressive inability to leave an adventure alone. The goggles? He calls them preparation. The sand behind his ears suggests he's still working on that.

Jack bounds over a sandy ridge, long hind legs extended and a little spray of sand behind him.

Always one more look

The long way
is his favorite.

Jack never had much interest in a weekend that looked exactly like the last one. He wanted the wide-open view, the last warm light on the dunes, and the story everyone would still be telling on the drive home.

Then he started noticing the people arriving with the same excitement and a whole lot of questions. Where should we go? Where can we camp? What will the kids enjoy? What do we need before we leave?

For someone with ears like those, pretending not to hear wasn't really an option.

Room for one more story

A good guide
starts by listening.

So Jack found himself a weathered fence, rested his paws on the rail, and started with a simple question: “What brings you here?”

Some visitors were just dreaming. Some had a trailer to pack and a trip to plan. Others ran a local business and wanted to be part of the adventure. Jack figured they deserved different answers.

That's the spirit he brings to the site. He'll show you around, explain the tools, or let you explore at your own pace. And when the planning is done, he's all for slowing down, settling into camp and hearing how your day went.

More than a friendly face

He's here to help you get out there.

You bring the crew. He'll bring the ears.

“Well, what are we waiting for?”
