The open area and the routes around it
BLM has delineated and fenced the dunes for open OHV play. Cross-country travel is allowed only inside that open area. Outside it, every motorized trip stays on designated routes, which BLM marks with white arrows or white paint.
What sets these dunes apart is the trees. Cottonwoods grow straight out of the sand, and BLM asks riders to give them a wide berth.
Fence to fence, then follow the arrows
If you leave the fenced dunes, you are on a route system, not open ground. Look for the white markings before you ride on.

Getting there
BLM's directions: drive 13 miles east of Green River on I-70 and take Ranch Exit 173 south. Continue southwest for about 12 miles, bearing right at 4.5 miles and going straight at 7.8 miles, then turn east at 12.3 miles.

Where can you ride at White Wash Sand Dunes?
Cross-country riding is allowed only inside BLM's fenced open dune area of about 1,400 acres. Outside it, motorized travel must stay on designated routes marked with white arrows or paint.
How far is White Wash Sand Dunes from Moab?
BLM puts the dunes 48 miles northwest of Moab and 25 miles southeast of Green River.
