A long way from town
BLM's route leaves I-70 at Exit 173 and runs about 12 miles to the dunes, which sit 25 miles from Green River and 48 miles from Moab. Save the directions and the published trailhead coordinates before you leave signal behind.

Heat and cold
The Green River climate record averaged a July high of 97.7 degrees and a January low of 10.0. Carry extra water in summer and real cold-weather gear in winter.

Wildlife, trees and working land
- Keep your distance from desert bighorn sheep
- Give the cottonwood trees a wide berth
- Stay clear of oil production facilities and ranches, and respect private property
- Outside the fence, ride only designated routes
