The bombing range
BLM warns that the Knolls OHV area borders an active bombing range and tells riders to stay within the boundaries. Treat the edge as absolute.
Regroup and find your bearings before riding on. Exploring toward an unknown edge is the one mistake this place does not forgive.

Heat and cold
At the Knolls 10 NE climate station, July averaged a high of 92.8 degrees and December an overnight low of 14.5 over its 1986 to 2004 record. Plan shade and water in summer, and real cold-weather gear in winter.

Mud flats and open ground
Knolls mixes sand dunes and hills with mud flats. Ride flats you can see clearly, keep speed matched to what you can stop for, and stay on posted speed limits on maintained roads.
