Summer heat
The St. George climate station, the long-term record for this corner of Utah, averaged a July high of 101.7 degrees and an August high of 99.5. Ride early, carry more water than feels necessary and plan real shade for midday.

Dunes and slickrock
Sand Mountain mixes sand dunes with slickrock. Slow down before crests, look before you drop over, and treat rock ledges as places to scout on foot first.

The park posts harmful algae advisories on its current conditions page when they apply, and it listed a warning advisory and health watch when it updated on September 7, 2026. Check before anyone swims, and keep an eye on children near the beaches.
