Summer heat
From May through September the park reports highs in the upper 90s and even low 100s, and warns that sand can reach 140 degrees when the air hits 100. It asks visitors to bring water, sunscreen and protective gear.
Early morning is cooler for riders, machines and bare feet on the sand. Plan to be back at shade before the afternoon peak.

Crests, flags and spacing
- Keep the whip flag mounted and upright so it shows above the dune line
- Slow down before cresting and look before you drop over
- Leave room on climbs for riders coming down the same face
- Set a regroup point, because riders disappear behind dunes quickly

Young riders
Utah lets riders under 18 operate on public land only if they can reach and operate every control, carry an approved youth certificate and ride under direct adult supervision. Helmets are required for riders under 18.
